Now, this is a sight for sore eyes. New Bearbrick is on the horizon. And not just any, a new collaboration between the famous Japanese artist Ikeuchi Hiroto and the Medicom Toy. And my my, it is something. Ikeuchi Hiroto, the Japanese artist behind the advanced wearable robotics shown in Balenciaga’s Spring 2022 campaign, he’s spiced up his game with a unique Bearbrick figure.
“This is a work to make us realize that the call from our conscience is not a response from an artificial intelligence, but a silent request from ourselves.”
Ikeuchi Hiroto
Ikeuchi Hiroto’s design on the new Bearbrick features a semi-transparent body. It showcases a generator located on the chest wired to a dome-like mechanism on the head resembling a robot brain. This Bearbrick figure features limbs in black, silver, and gold chrome with futuristic iconography scattered throughout.
Unlike Hajime Sorayama’s Sexy Robots, Ikeuchi Hiroto’s robots are inspired by anime robots, the cyberpunk era, and the craft behind technological engineering, making them a tad bit eerie compared to the sexiness of Sorayama’s figures. Ikeuchi Hiroto delves into the world of transhumanism as a spiritual transcendence and the future of humanity in augmented bodies.
This one-of-a-kind Ikeuchi x Medicom Toy Bearbrick figure will be available via web lottery only. It will appear first at the exhibition AKASHIC RECORDS 3 from Illuminati in Omotesando Hills from October 22 to October 31. So, do you feel lucky?
